To Kill a MockingbirD Project
You will be following the steps below to complete this 3-part project. All three parts should be created in a Google Doc and shared with Mrs. Wolfe and Ms. Gilroy at the completion of the project.
Part 1 - Poetry
Using prevalent subjects from the novel, find a poem from 1930-1960 that relates to that subject matter. Use library resources (books, databases, websites) to find your poem. The cart of books available in the library will be the most useful. Once you find the poem (online or in print), copy and paste or type the poem into the Google Doc. Be sure to cite the poem source. In your own words, explain why you chose this poem, summarize its meaning, and relate it to your/our lives today. Pick a character from the book who exemplifies the sentiments in this poem. Be sure to include the character's name in the Google Doc. The following are possible themes for poems:
- Education
- Courage
- Racism
- Poverty
- Alcoholism
- Gender
- Southern religious practices
- Father/daughter relationships
- Any other topic you think relates!
Part 2 - Life in maycomb
Click on the link for your group to answer questions about what life was like in Alabama in the 1930s.
Part 3 - Instagram
Using the template in the PowerPoint document HERE, create a fake "Instagram" account for a character in the book. You do not have to use the Instagram app for this project. Just fill in the template with pictures that you think would relate to the character you've chosen. You must create 3 posts with the template. You can copy and paste them into your Google doc. Be sure to come up with a "username" as well as a caption. Write a brief description as to why you chose each picture and caption for the character. Remember to CITE YOUR SOURCES for the images you choose. See Ms. Gilroy's example below:
